It’s been a long time since I ordered a chai latte at a coffee shop, so I decided to look it up. Is it even real spices? Well, I’m still not sure what all they put in their ‘chai tea concentrate’ but I do now know that a SMALL Caribou Almond Milk Chai Latte has 34 grams of sugar.


That’s 8.5 teaspoons of sugar. 

I know, I wish it wasn’t true too. 

A full-size Snickers bar has 27 grams of sugar. 

Have a chai latte and you’ve just unknowingly sabotaged your weight loss efforts.

(By the way, the small skim milk version has 38 grams of sugar. Ugh.)

SUGAR is a big issue for weight loss. It’s not the fat you eat, it’s not even as simple as total calories. If you’re eating too much sugar, you are telling your body to store fat. 

Instead, I made a latte with almond milk, raw honey, vanilla and essential oils.

Why essential oils? Well, of course using the spices would be just fine and definitely good for you, but with pure essential oils, you get double the goodness with therapeutic benefit (oils are super-concentrated and pack a bigger punch than herbs!).

Here are just a few of the benefits you’ll get when you use cinnamon, cardamom, ginger and clove essential oils:

  • Cinnamon EO supports healthy metabolic function
  • Cardamom EO aids digestion and supports healthy GI function
  • Ginger EO may help reduce bloating and gas
  • Clove EO helps enhance the absorption of nutrients

Chai Latte

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 teaspoon raw honey*
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 drops doTERRA Cinnamon EO
  • 1 drop doTERRA Cardamom EO
  • 1 drop doTERRA Ginger EO
  • 1 toothpick drop of Clove EO

Heat almond milk in a saucepan over low-med heat until warm.

Stir in honey, vanilla and EO’s very well. Use a toothpick to add Clove as a whole drop would be too much.

Drink right away as oils will start to separate. Or, if you’re bringing your latte to work with you, put it in a to-go tumbler and give it a shake periodically to re-mix the oils and almond milk.

*Honey contains about 6 grams of sugar. For a sugar-free drink, replace honey with 2 drops of organic stevia.
