Twas the night before the first day of kindergarten . . . we have a mix of nerves and excitement at our house!  And I’m not just talking about the kids.  Mom is pretty nervous too.  I am so excited for this new adventure in our lives, but transitions are hard when it comes to your babies.  I know you all understand!

I have packed my kids lunches already for two years, as they went to a full-day Montessori school.  I have the routine down, so it’s really not a big deal.  Extra work, yes, but no biggie once you get into the swing of things.  I prefer to pack lunches the night before so the mornings are a bit smoother.  We get the lunch bags all packed and in the refrigerator, and then the morning of, we just throw in an ice pack and we’re good to go.

My kids carefully contemplated their requested lunch.  Amelia requested a smoothie, and Sully’s favorite is PB&J, so that’s what I made.  Natalie is pretty easy-going, what can I say.  At least 1 out of 3 is!  She was actually more concerned with the surprise breakfast I promised them. . . . more on that tomorrow!

I made my Strawberry-Banana Green Smoothie from my latest newsletter.  I doubled the recipe and added a tablespoon of chia seeds for extra protein and omega-3’s.

I poured some smoothie into a thermos for each child and included a straw in their lunch bags.

A half PB&J sandwich will round out the lunch.  It’s always hard for me to judge how hungry my kids will be, but I just note if food comes home or if they seem overly hungry to gauge how much to pack for future days.

Then comes an afternoon snack. . .tomorrow they will just have grapes.  When they get home, we can always have another snack if needed.  I can’t wait to see how the day goes!
