Yes, there is such a thing and apparently it’s Saturday, August 31!  Trail mix is such a great snack and so easy to make for yourself or for your kids.  You can buy a pre-made mix just about anywhere, but I like to buy my own ingredients and let my kids make up their own fun concoctions!  That way I control the salt and sugar.  My kids love taking a container or baggie and deciding what they want in their snack mix.

This would make a great snack to send with kids to school.  You may need to skip the nuts for the classroom, but you can always swap those out with seeds instead.

Choose from ingredients like:

Raw nuts (cashews, walnuts, pecans, almonds, etc)

Unsalted peanuts

Raw pumpkin seeds

Raw or roasted and unsalted sunflower seeds

Raisins

Dried Cherries (watch the labels for added sugar!)

Dried cranberries (again, watch those labels!)

Dried Apricots

Coconut flakes

Dark chocolate chips (just a few)

Home-made popcorn

Whole-grain or Gluten-free pretzels or cereal (do I need to mention the sugar again?)

Freeze-dried 100% fruit (mango, strawberries, blueberries, bananas, pineapple)

Goji berries
