Even if you’re not a DIYer, hang with me. This recipe is SUPER simple to make (and it works!).
Summers are short in the midwest. Beautiful and fabulous, but short. And the midwest truly is the land of the mosquitoes.
But maybe everyone has that in the summertime? I’m not sure. If you live in a nuisance-free zone, please comment and let me know where that is! I did just move, but I may be up for another relocation. 🙂
Whether you’re sitting outside on the deck or patio, or you’re at your kid’s soccer game, there’s nothing worse than when the sun goes behind the trees and the mosquitoes come out. BUT if you’re like me, you don’t want to use some the junk you can find at Target.
A. it smells terrible.
B. the ingredients aren’t what I want soaking into my skin
The good news is, essential oils are pretty darn effective at keeping bugs off you. I will say nothing is 100%, so if you’re sitting by the water in a hotbed of mosquitoes, this won’t be perfect. But neither are the sprays you buy at Target.
I used this last summer and plan to use it as my go-to again this summer!
(I realize I look like I’m in pain here, but that’s the best I had from my thumbnail options. I’m apparently pretty expressive when I talk! Don’t be afraid the play the video.)
Here’s the DIY Recipe!
In a glass spray bottle, add:
- 20 drops TerraShield Repellent Blend
- 10 drops Eucalyptus
- 10 drops Lemongrass
Fill the rest of the bottle with water.
Give the bottle a good shake and shake up before every use. (Oil and water don’t mix well so you want to re-incorporate the oils before every use).
Spray on skin and clothing as needed.
Viola, you’re done. Simple right?
Even simpler… if you don’t want to buy a glass bottle or re-use something you have, simply buy the TerraShield Repellent Blend and use that as is. It even comes in a spray bottle!
I love to add the other oils, but just the TerraShield will work too. Other essential oils are said to work well for repelling insects as well… Peppermint and Lavender come to mind. You have a lot of options!
*If you’re using on kids, you can definitely use less essential oil. Experiment and see what works best for you!
